Help Us Welcome Dr. Carla Hoekstra to our Practice

Whether you’ve been a patient of Joiner and Zwart Dentistry for a long time or you haven’t yet had your first visit in our warm, inviting office; we’d like to introduce Dr. Carla Hoekstra. We’ve been serving Orange City and the northwest Iowa region for 19 years and are excited to find a highly skilled and personable dentist to join our team. Dr. Hoekstra provides excellent dental care in a calm, friendly, conservative, and gentle manner and strives to make every visit to the dental a comfortable one.

Dr. Carla A. (Billiet) Hoekstra graduated from Sioux City North High School in 1999. She received her Bachelor of Science in Biology degree from Buena Vista University in 2003 and her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from The University of Iowa in 2007.

Committed - Dr. Hoekstra remains an active member of the American Dental Association, Iowa Dental Association, Northwest District of the Iowa Dental Association, Sioux City Dental Society, is currently serving as Chair of the Northwest District of the Iowa Dental Board Peer Review Committee, and has also volunteered at six of the Iowa Mission of Mercy events.

Prevention First – Great dental care is a combination of high-quality treatment along with effective prevention. Dr. Hoekstra helps her patients minimize the amount of dental work they need by focusing on prevention first.

Conservative Care – Dr. Hoekstra enjoys forming relationships with her patients that are built on trust. That’s why she only recommends treatment that is absolutely necessary for good oral health.

Dr. Hoekstra lives at home with her husband of 14 years, Mike, son of Larry and Gloria Hoekstra of Orange City, IA; their four children: Annaliese (12), Carver (10), Christian (8), and Mikayla (3); and their two fur-babies: Nikita and Suki. In her free time, she enjoys working with her hands: gardening and yard work, painting and other art, and various “projects” around the house.

She coaches girls’ youth volleyball, helps organize the Stars Volleyball Club, and is currently the director of the Sioux City Future Stars Volleyball Committee, a non-profit organization that serves to eliminate barriers and provide all children with equal opportunities in sports. Recently, she began the process of implementing a boys’ volleyball program in Sioux City. She continues to play volleyball year-round in various leagues, including both outdoor sand and indoor co-ed leagues.

Dr Hoekstra and her family have been active members of Sunnybrook Community Church since moving back to the area after she graduated dental school. As a family, they enjoy playing outside; watching all of their sports, dance, and school activities; going to the zoo; helping Mom and Dad with the garden/ yardwork and other projects; playing cards and board games; and spending time with their friends and extended family.
